May 2019 BLOG INCOME REPORT

May just flew by for me.

I was consistently posting each week, but got a little side tracked with house duties and end-of-year school stuff (check out this pencil vase I made!!).

I also side tracked some blogging tasks to read some personal finance books. My new favorite book is The Automatic Millionaire. Read my list of best personal finance books for a brief summary.

Blogging hasn’t been easy and a few times I’ve wanted to throw in the towel. If you’re a blogger I know you can relate 😉

I hope my blogging income reports will encourage you to consider pursuing blogging as a side hustle. Be warned, it’s not a get rich quick scheme by any means. It takes a lot of time, work, dedication, and continued learning.

If you’re a blogger who has been blogging for awhile and NOT seeing results I urge you to keep on going.

Check out my organic search percentages last May compared to this May. I went from 1% organic traffic to 12.1%!

Blogging Resources

These resources are the ones that helped me hit over 25k sessions to join Mediavine and finally start making some money blogging.

Carly Campbell’s Pinteresting Strategies Course

Read my >>full review on Carly’s course and get a promo code here<<

Dare to Conquer (DTC, formerly BBC)

Scrivs, the chill, super successful blogger behind DTC runs multiple blogs that make several thousand dollars a month.   His course is different than any other courses I have seen. For one price you get access to every course, Pinterest guide, SEO, affiliate marketing, video, sales funnel, community, etc.

I’m all about free. If you’re not sure if DTC is for you, just work through Scriv’s free 12 day blogging boot camp course. Tons of great sh*t you haven’t read before.

TAILWIND

I use Tailwind to look at my stats and Tailwind tribes was what helped me get over 1,000 page views a day.   You don’t need to have Tailwind to get a ton of traffic, but the time it saves me has been used to create new content and pins so I find it to be well worth the money. Currently leaving low performing Pinterest group boards.

Try Tailwind for free (no payment information needed). Get 100 free pins and free access to up to 5 tribes using this link.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Organic traffic continues to increase and I’ve been getting some great shares on my newest pins.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I just signed up for an SEO course that I am fiercely working my way through and hope that I can see some results in time for the holidays as that is when advertising rates are at their highest.

I realize I’m in this blogging thing for the long haul. I accept that I will have moments of wanting to give up, but it’ll only get easier.

I have some awesome no spend challenge and saving challenge worksheets coming up so sign up to my newsletter to get notifications.

If you don’t have your own blog yet, read this post to see what you need to do to set up your blog.   If you have been blogging, keep up the great work and know it only gets easier.

  1. Hey Monica!

This is exciting to hear! Your organic traffic has improved a lot!

Like you, I’m trying to work on that too!

Pinterest is too emotional— there are random days where you would think you’re going to lose 70% of your traffic forever because it starts losing steam out of nowhere (then decides to shower you with love again) so diversifying it with other sources is a smart thing to do.

You’re doing really well and your income has been coming back up! Keep it up!

P.S. the automatic millionaire is a great book! 😊

  2. Thanks Ling! Yea, my Pinterest traffic hasn’t been exceptional, just steady. I still need to figure out the whole affiliate marketing thing, which is kind of important lol. Thanks for the encouragement

  3. Congrats on getting the increase in organic traffic. With how much social-media and search-engine-algorithms tend to change, I count any steady traffic in 2019 as a victory rather than a stalemate.

I’ve been lurking around your website shadows for a while now and I finally wanted to wish you good luck to the rest of your website grind in 2019!

  4. Hi Sam! Thank you so much for your kind words. My first month blogging I think I had about 200 pageviews and most were from a blogger group. My first year I made just a little over $200. Your site has a great foundation and it’ll grow in time. Once I figured out how to make better pins and write good keyword rich descriptions I saw a big jump in Pinterest traffic. Join some Facebook groups and ask for feedback (it’s free! lol). But definitely focus on SEO from the start if you can. I’m just now going back to all my old posts to update them and see an average of 100 organic pageviews a day. Best of luck!
